Why wind chill exists

Wind strips away the thin layer of warmed air near your skin, so the same air temperature feels colder when it is windy. The official North American model is valid for air temperature at or below about 50 °F and wind speeds of at least a few mph.

Using the results responsibly

Very low wind chill increases frostbite and hypothermia risk quickly. Dress in layers, limit exposed skin, and treat this tool as an educational estimate, not a replacement for National Weather Service advisories.
